it’s good to treat yourself well and do self care activities, but remember that your inner monologue and the way you speak to yourself is maybe the most important form of self care.

imagine what the most helpful and kind therapist or friend would say, and try to say it to yourself. whenever you’re crying or feeling like an unlovable, annoying failure, practice having a therapist session in your head, someone who makes you feel that’s it’s totally okay to feel this way, while also helping you with getting up again.

or write down everything in a journal or notes app, and then reply to yourself as if you were your own comforting person.

you can also vent to a plush toy and imagine the comforting gentle things they would say.

let yourself think the things you’d normally think, and feel the things you’d normally feel, but catch yourself out in a gentle but reaffirming way so you don’t spiral as much.

it takes a lot of time to make it your default, especially if you’ve spent years with mean or discouraging thoughts. but one step at a time, you can change and become kinder to yourself on the deepest level.
